Creative Mind Is Never Blank

[For young adults]

During my college years I was usually conscientious about doing my schoolwork. But at the end of my sophomore year I had an attack of acute procrastination.

The hour of reckoning came in a course for which I had to prepare a special project that would represent everything learned and covered during the entire quarter. I had decided to write a play in free verse having a modern theme and characters but employing the forms of Greek drama, including a chorus.

I had vaguely thought about the play for some weeks but had made only a few notes. Somehow every time I tried to write anything my mind drew a complete blank. Often when I was out playing hockey or at a dance, I had a torrent of ideas for the play. Yet as soon as I settled down to write, that big blankness took over.
