Five years ago I was faced with the responsibility of bringing up on my own a daughter who was then twelve years old. The situation brought about a mental breakdown. During this period I had the help of a Christian practitioner, whose understanding supported me and kept me afloat, and gradually I regained my sense of poise again. Nevertheless, at times the feeling of loss and desolation persisted, and there were occasions when I felt I wanted to get away from old landmarks. At this point some good friends in Australia offered my daughter and me a home and the opportunity of a new life, and so I decided to leave England and take the journey.

These dear friends made us very welcome, and for a while the new surroundings, together with a warm climate, did much to break the gloom of our sadness. During this time of my stay in Australia I studied and read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy more than I had ever done before and simply clung to all the truth I found in the Christian Science periodicals and lectures.

It was truly wonderful how God supported me and mine during this testing time. A home and a job were supplied, and I found that I was still able to perform a service that I had not performed for many years.
