Integrity of Thought and Life

One of the foremost characteristics of Jesus' life and ministry was his integrity of purpose, his faithfulness in carrying out the will of his Father. He consistently referred to this single goal as the determining factor which guided his thought and acts. The purity of his thought revealed the power of his purpose, and he was faithful to the end. As our example, he taught us to have one God, a single motive power, and to live our lives as the expression of that divine impetus.

From the first temptation in the wilderness to the last trial and crucifixion, he was faithful to his purpose. He said to Pilate, "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth." John 18:37; He taught men the nature of God through precept and example, and he demonstrated this nature in his healing works. He related health to purity of thought, wholeness to holiness, and on this basis showed the indestructibility of man as the idea of God.

Christian Science reveals the absolute nature of God through the use of various synonyms: Life, Truth, Soul, Spirit, Mind, Principle, Love. And it follows the Biblical instruction that man is made in the image and likeness of God. Man, made in the likeness of Spirit, is purely spiritual. He faithfully reflects the nature of God in every quality. It is this intimate relation with God understood that empowers mankind with the Christ, the ability to heal, and reveals the everlasting integrity of man's being. Mrs. Eddy says, "God is the creator of man, and, the divine Principle of man remaining perfect, the divine idea or reflection, man, remains perfect." Science and Health, p. 470;
