DANIEL AND THE LIONS

Deep in the den, blocked by a massive stone,
Daniel and the lions passed the night.
Among these beasts he might have seemed alone
And in a pitiful and hopeless plight.
But he was ready for this awful hour;
For many a God-close year he had prepared
Till there was nothing left in him to cower
And cry, "Oh, tell me, why was I not spared
This harsh ordeal?" Daniel trusted God.
Innocency kept him free from harm;
His courage ruled the lions like a rod;
His love subdued them like a circling arm:
He must have known that Love was there before
He entered through that dark, forbidding door.
