For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son...

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3: 16). Mrs. Eddy on page 410 of Science, and Health elucidates this Bible verse: " 'This is life eternal,' says Jesus, —is, not shall be; and then he defines everlasting life as a present knowledge of his Father and of himself,—the knowledge of Love, Truth, and Life."

This "knowledge of Love, Truth, and Life" has met my every need for many years. I was a relatively young child when in 1886 or '87 my mother first became interested in Christian Science. She bought a copy of Science and Health and began to study. Later she had class instruction with a Christian Science teacher.

For a while after this, Mother left Christian Science and was under the care of doctors. But she soon found out that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." Mother had been ill for a long time. A fine doctor said to her, "I can't do anything more for you; you are wasting your money on doctors and drugs. There is nothing we can do to help you." In this extremity my mother again turned to Christian Science and asked that a practitioner be called.
