Solving Racial Problems

According to Mrs. Eddy, Christian Science is "the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony." Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1; This law has been operating throughout all ages, but its discovery makes the present the age of true enlightenment. The activity of the Church of Christ, Scientist, healing and blessing mankind with the demonstration of the universal truths of God and man, focuses the force of God's law upon ignorance and limitation. By viewing the events of recent years in the light of this activity, we can understand win and how men and women have begun to feel their own worth as individuals and why they have begun to rebel against their own as well as others' beliefs in their native inferiority .

When Christ Jesus had prayed for his disciples, he said, "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us." John 17:20,21: He laid down his human life not for a select or privileged few, but for all men, to prove that the way to eternal life is universal love.

As long as one thinks of another racial group as "they"' he can contribute little to the solution of racial problems. Christian Science reveals the only real solution. It is love for one's neighbor on the basis of man's true individuality as God's idea. It is love for everyone on the basis of the Science of Christ, the true idea of God, which proclaims the individual dignity of man. It is the kind of love that causes one to lay down whatever material sense one might have of his fellowmen, whatever causes one to classify people in any way but God's way as shown us by His Son, Christ Jesus. Every misunderstanding, every tension between racial groups can be solved only by those who can think in terms of "we," not "we and they." "Have we not all one father?" Mal. 2:10: cried the prophet.
