In the world of today in which there is a great searching by mankind for a sense of values, Christian Science stands as a beacon of Truth to lead men out of darkness and despair into the sunshine of God's love for His creation. His perfect image and reflection, man, made in His likeness.

Many years ago I found myself wallowing in a mire of despondency over broken human relationships and suffering from an acute physical breakdown. Having had the blessed opportunity of attending the Christian Science Sunday School as a child, I knew that the truth of the healing Christ could make me free, and so I sought the help of a practitioner. In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 540), "The muddy river-bed must be stirred in order to purify the stream." Much stirring up of my consciousness was necessary. Three practitioners at different times during three years contributed to the opening of the doors which had seemed to imprison me.

Gratitude for Mrs. Eddy, aroused by the study of her biographies and writings, including Science and Health in conjunction with the Bible, was of utmost importance in this experience. I gained an awareness of God's ever-presence and of His love for me and for all which has never since left me. Though a sense of weakness so engulfed me at times that I could hardly stand up, I was led to take a job in a department store, necessitating standing on my feet many hours a day. The statements, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (Phil. 4:13) and "Mind is the source of all movement, and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action" (Science and Health, p. 283), were two of the truths which guided and guarded me.
