Gaining a True Sense of Love

The Christian of today realizes that he faces increasingly difficult tasks. Modern transportation has made the world a small place, and people of all nations have been drawn together in closer contact. The Christian is being called upon to demonstrate his Master's doctrine that all men are truly brothers and should learn to live together in love.

Physical differences and variances in backgrounds, education, and culture pose a problem of adjustment for the races before they can live side by side in a completely harmonious relationship. Harmonious brotherhood has not been successfully demonstrated in most parts of the world today because men believe themselves to be mortal, and their wide differences in appearance and beliefs often cause them to rub sharply and react bitterly against each other.

To solve these problems, men must rise above the material evidence and find the spiritual truth belied by physical appearances. Christian Science teaches that while men appear to be physically mortal, man is, in reality, spiritual and immortal, the image and likeness of God. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,'' Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes, "A demonstration of the facts of Soul in Jesus' way resolves the dark visions of material sense into harmony and immortality.'' Science and Health, p. 428;
