What Is Our Viewpoint?

Each day presents certain challenges, and the way in which they are met depends largely upon the mental standpoint from which they are regarded. This point of view may be influenced by such factors as fear, anger, impatience, or popular beliefs concerning chance and circumstances. But Christian Science encourages one to take the spiritual viewpoint, which resolves problems through the recognition of God as the only power and of good as the only condition.

Mrs. Eddy realized the importance of abandoning the material, personal standpoint in considering human affairs. She knew that the healing of humanity's problems, whether of sin, sickness, or other discord, depends upon the consideration of them from the Christly point of view, which recognizes the nothingness of evil and the allness of God, or good.

In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes: "When understanding changes the standpoints of life and intelligence from a material to a spiritual basis, we shall gain the reality of Life, the control of Soul over sense, and we shall perceive Christianity, or Truth, in its divine Principle. This must be the climax before harmonious and immortal man is obtained and his capabilities revealed." Science and Health, p. 322;
