Some years ago I was bedridden for several weeks and in great pain. I called upon a Christian Science practitioner for treatment.
During this illness a member of my family insisted that I have a medical diagnosis. I was too ill to resist the pressure at the time. The doctor informed me the condition was a rare one which had never up to that time been cured. However, he recommended I remain under his care and try some new experiments. I thanked him for his interest. Then I told him I was a Christian Scientist and would continue to rely on Science, for it had never failed me.
I had many sleepless nights. The practitioner was by my side one evening when the pain was intense, and she stayed until the following morning. We declared the truth, firmly denying the lie of evil's supposed presence and affirming man's inseparability from God. We also sang hymns. By morning the mesmerism was broken, and the pain gone. A strong sense of God's ever-present love and protection was felt.
