ON THE DAMASCUS ROAD
Acts 26:9-18
Not unto Saul alone the challenge came.
Who has not followed the Damascus road,
Pursuing error blindly, with the same
Ignorance of the one true source of good?
Who has not, of a sudden, felt influx
Of light, and heard, "Why persecutest . . . me?"
Asked in soft tones (To kick against the pricks
Is hard) and sensed compassion instantly?
For even rebel consciousness can hear
(As hear it must) the coming of the Christ;
And asking. "What can I do?" persevere
In listening. The blessing will consist
Of grace and truth learned, as the Master's word
Brings clarity to vision dark and blurred.
