Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am...

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God" (Isa. 41:10). These words have always accompanied me in the dark hours. I have known Christian Science from childhood, but since I lived in a city where there were no Churches of Christ, Scientist, I was never able to attend a Christian Science Sunday School. When I grew up, I was not very much concerned with any religion.

After I was married, I had many troubles, and then I again took up Science and Health by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and became immersed in its study; but since I was not attending church, the words often seemed obscure, empty, and incomprehensible to me. Two daughters were born to us, and both needed and received treatment from a practitioner, whose effective help I recall with infinite gratitude.

Having got through these first difficulties, I let down again in my study; but new family troubles overwhelmed me, and in order not to be overcome by desperation, I studied and studied various philosophies which, however, did not satisfy me because the ideas always remained obscure and with many gaps.
