What Is Health?
Most people believe that without health they cannot find happiness or success or fulfill their daily duties. But what is health? Christian Science teaches that health is never a condition of the material body but is wholly a state of consciousness.
Mrs. Eddy, as God's messenger of Truth, gives us God's message of true health in these words: "Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind; nor can the material senses bear reliable testimony on the subject of health" (Science and Health, p. 120). So when we say one looks sick or feels sick, this is the unreliable testimony of material sense, and it is false. There is no sense or sensation in matter. We truly feel with Soul-sense when we feel only good and know there is only good to feel—the good that God sees.
Through the earnest study of the Bible and of Mrs. Eddy's writings we learn to turn away from a material sense of health in the body to the real sense of health, which man reflects as the image and likeness of God. The basis of true health lies in man's relationship to God, for man is inseparable from God, good. He manifests God's wholeness.
