RADIO PROGRAM No. 207 - What Is Baptism?

ANNOUNCER: Most Christians agree that baptism is necessary in the life of a Christian. But just when baptism should take place, what form it should take, or whether it should take any outward form at all—these are questions about which there are many different opinions.

QUESTIONER: I'd like to know some of the Christian Science views on this subject.

SPEAKER: Regardless of the different forms it takes, isn't it true that baptism in the Christian churches expresses a sense of God washing away sins? Then it means purification. The Bible says (I John 1:8), "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." Now, the Christian Scientist shares the conviction with others that purification from sin is very much needed. But, although our goal is the same. Christian Science approaches baptism from a different standpoint.
