One fundamental question that should be raised by the Church again and again—and perhaps at the beginning of every new pastorate is: As a social institution, how is the Church different? How is it different from a community center? From a brotherly lodge? From a charity?

The difference is that the Church is—or ought to be—spiritual...Its task is to introduce men to the interior life of fellowship with God, and to help them grow in that spiritual life
