Finding Real Cause

The Bible tells us that there is only one cause, one God, one creator. Since God is good, cause and effect must likewise be good. It is utterly illogical to believe that God, divine Love, could possibly create an effect contrary to His perfect nature. From this we must certainly conclude that evil in any form is not made, and any evidence of it in human experience must exist only as an illusion, which Christ Jesus condemned as a lie. Christian Science teaches that evil is a suppositional opposite of Truth, without presence or power.

This Science further explains that evil appears to exist only as a false belief in the so-called human mind, and one must correct this belief mentally and spiritually by holding to the truth of man's perfect nature as the image and likeness of God, or Spirit. In this likeness man is spiritual, not material, never subject to material conditions.

Jesus' mission on earth was to reveal the grand fact of man's immunity from evil of any sort. He taught that "the kingdom of God is within you" (Luke 17: 21), and he healed the sick and the sinning and raised the dead on that basis. He awakened them from the mortal dream of a cause other than God.
