Safe in Water, Air, and on Land

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Emily wanted very, very much to learn to swim. Her bigger brother and sister could swim, dive, and even run and jump through the air and land happily in the water. But Emily could only talk about swimming, even though she had had swimming lessons and had been told just what to do with her arms and legs. Each day she would tell about all the wonderful things she was going to do in the water, but when she got in the water she changed her mind and became afraid and decided she couldn't swim.

One day Emily again said: "I'm not going to swim today. I've changed my mind."

Her mother replied: "It is your thinking that must be changed. Let's sit down and talk about it awhile."
