It has been my great privilege to know of Christian Science all my life. My father's first healing through this religion was that of tuberculosis. The healing took place three years before I was born. The gratitude and love which my parents felt and expressed for this wonderful religion impressed me even as a child. I grew up with the realization that Christian Science is the way of Life. The truths which I learned in Sunday School and at home have formed a firm foundation on which to build.

During the years I lived at home, I had many healings, and I was protected from so-called children's diseases. I was always encouraged to do my own work in Christian Science; yet, up until the time I graduated from college, some experienced Christian Scientist was always available to give me help when I needed it. But there came a time when I was all alone and greatly needed help.

I was teaching school in a small town and had an attic apartment where I lived by myself. One night I awoke feeling ill. I had no telephone. The people who lived downstairs were not Christian Scientists, and I did not want to disturb them. I read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, but I felt completely alone. I closed my eyes and declared aloud that I knew Christian Science healed and that I could receive inspiration from my reading. I picked up Science and Health again, and it opened to page 138, on which Mrs. Eddy says, "It was now evident to Peter that divine Life, Truth, and Love, and not a human personality, was the healer of the sick and a rock, a firm foundation in the realm of harmony."
