Words of Current Interest
The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the CHRISTIAN SCIENCE QUARTERLY designated to be read in Christian Science churches on October 30, 1966.
Transgressions (Ps. 51:1)
(trans-gresh'unz—a as in add, e as in end, u as in circus). This word is derived from the Latin trans, meaning "over, across," plus gradi, meaning "to step, walk." It means "acts, processes, or instances of transgression; as infringements or violations of a law, command, or duty; trespasses, sins." The early Hebrews often thought of sin as going beyond the bounds of right and fair conduct; as passing beyond the frontiers of good into the forbidden territory of wrong or evil.
Tarshish (Jonah 1:3)
