One evening I suffered a great loss of blood and was in a very weakened condition. That evening and for several days I was in bed, and fear tried to say that I was afraid to go to sleep. But in Isaiah we read (41:10), "Fear thou not; for I am thy God: I thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." These words comforted me. A practitioner gave much prayerful support, and my family were a wonderful help, reading to me the Lesson-Sermon, outlined in the Quarterly, the writings of Mrs. Eddy, and the periodicals.
In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy says (p.376), "The pallid invalid, whom you declare to be wasting away with consumption of the blood, should be told that blood never gave life and can never take it away,—that Life is Spirit, and that there is more life and immortality in one good motive and act, than in all the blood which ever flowed through mortal veins and simulated a corporeal sense of life." So with this great love of the family and the great love for Christian Science, I found myself absolutely upheld and strong. At the end of the several days I was healed, and physical strength was displayed by the ability to play a better game of tennis than ever before. This experience proved an opportunity to grow in grace.
I have found that establishing oneself in a Church of Christ, Scientist, when one moves to a new location brings an immediate sense of home. I shall always treasure the fine friends I have made as a result of being a Christian Scientist. The spiritual understanding expressed by our friends is like a shining light. I am most grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, class instruction, and the love for God and man that we learn in Christian Science, which was demonstrated by our Master, Christ Jesus, and revealed in this age by Mrs. Eddy.
