When Christian Science was...
When Christian Science was presented to me in 1910 I had been given up by several physicians. I was suffering from organic trouble, and I had tried every form of treatment I had ever heard of. Several specialists had operated. But I had never heard of Christian Science.
I was a teen-ager. I thought I had only a short time to live. I told my mother I would commence to read the Bible through. I told her I did not believe God had sent all that suffering to me. Much of the Bible I couldn't understand, so I studied the fourteenth and fifteenth chapters of the book of John. I could understand them. I prayed earnestly for some time.
My prayer was answered. A woman in a distant town heard of my case and sent me a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. As soon as I began to read the book I knew Science was what I wanted. I threw away all my medicine. We lived at the foot of the beautiful red Granite Mountains. I would take Science and Health and go up into the mountains and read for hours at a time.
