I have been a student of Christian Science...
I have been a student of Christian Science for about forty years, and during that time I have experienced many healings, for which I am very grateful.
A physical disorder kept recurring over a period of twenty years. During this time, when the pain became unbearably severe, I would ask for the help of a Christian Science practitioner, and I received relief but never a complete healing.
This physical condition was an internal disorder causing severe abdominal pain. One day, over eight years ago, feeling discouraged and downhearted, I telephoned a friend I knew was a sincere student of Christian Science and asked if she would help me.
She gave me treatments for two weeks, during which time she patiently and firmly helped to turn my thoughts away from the physical body and the internal disorder to the all-encompassing Father-Mother God, the one divine Mind, Spirit. She referred me to many passages to study and ponder in the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, our Leader.
One of these was from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy and contains this sentence (p. 261): "Look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality." Another was (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany by Mrs. Eddy, p. 210), "Beloved Christian Scientists, keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them."
Within two weeks I was completely healed of this internal disorder, and there has been no recurrence.
Since then, with the help of the same friend. Christian Science has healed me of a severe attack of influenza and of what appeared to be food poisoning. A painful growth on my eyelid disappeared and swollen ankles and feet were restored to their normal size. Recently I was stricken with blurred eyesight, accompanied by pain in my head and intense fear. I am very grateful for a quick healing of this difficulty and for the restoration of my normal sight.
I am more grateful than words can tell for a growing understanding of Christian Science and how to use this wonderful religion in every aspect of my daily life. I also wish to express my sincere gratitude for the Christian Science periodicals, class instruction, membership in our beloved Mother Church, and active participation in the work of a branch church.—(Mrs.) Bessie J. Green, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
