Divine Joy Never Ceases
Christian Science is a religion of ceaseless joy. Anyone may prove this for himself. Real joy does not ebb and flow like the tide, nor does it vary like the rise and fall of a barometer. It cannot be interrupted by the testimony of the five physical senses. It does not waver with changing conditions or experiences.
One believing that joy is material and subject to varying moods may question this reasoning. But joy, being a God-given gift to man, is spiritual and not a personal possession. It is as natural for man to be joyous as it is for the sun to shine. Thus joy cannot be overshadowed by the darkened thoughts of fear, sorrow, or loss any more than a cloud can extinguish the sun. Because joy is the radiant sunshine of everlasting Love which chases away the cloudy suggestions of the carnal mind, it can never cease.
The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 304): "This is the doctrine of Christian Science: that divine Love cannot be deprived of its manifestation, or object; that joy cannot be turned into sorrow, for sorrow is not the master of joy; that good can never produce evil; that matter can never produce mind nor life result in death. The perfect man—governed by God, his perfect Principle—is sinless and eternal."
