When I found Christian Science...

When I found Christian Science I was seeking a healing of weeping eczema. I had exhausted all material means in searching for a cure. At this point a friend, a student of Christian Science, asked me to try Science. I consented because man's extremity had been reached, and I was desperate. The first thing I did was to call an experienced Christian Scientist. She pointed out, in a general way, how to apply the teachings of this Science to my problem, and I proceeded to do this to the best of my ability.

Soon I began to realize through study that all forms of sin were in a sense diseases, and in my case many of them would have to be healed before the physical manifestation was removed. I had always thought it was just and right to take offense when someone offended me; also to get out of life all that it was possible to get, and my efforts were based solely upon materiality. Spirituality was a stranger to me.

Help from a practitioner continued to be sought from time to time. The results of taking my stand for a more spiritual concept of life were beginning to dawn on me. In the past I had noticed that when I entertained hateful thoughts the physical ailment would become aggravated. So I reasoned that to replace these with thoughts of love, kindness, patience, and purity, as Christian Science teaches us to do, was actually the key to freedom, and I resolved to put my newfound system of living into operation.
