The Christian Science Periodicals

There is promise of reward for those who read the Christian Science periodicals. Mrs. Eddy established each periodical with a specific purpose which she states in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 353) under the title "Something in a Name."

The healing, dynamic function of the periodicals is brought out in clearly defined language by Irving C. Tomlinson in his book, "Twelve Years with Mary Baker Eddy" (p. 99): "As each Christian Science periodical appeared, including The Christian Science Monitor, it was not merely a journalistic or literary venture; it was a spiritual, life-dispensing message, designed to bring salvation to humanity, to serve as an entering wedge of release from mortality, from its terrors, agonies, despairs, and failures. It was designed to bring life to all; to enter into the history of each individual, to rehabilitate his experience, and to shape his destiny. As Mrs. Eddy prayed to be shown how best to bring this truth to humanity, the answer came to her. Periodicals would meet the need,"

How important it is then, that these periodicals, which show evidence of the efficacy of the healing truth taught by Jesus, be brought before the public and kept before the public in Christian Science Reading Rooms! Then the spiritual truth which underlies each article will have its healing influence in the experience of mankind today.
