The most important happening...
The most important happening in my life took place when a friend asked me to read the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Up to that time I had considered myself an atheist, and as I read I was quite unaware of the change taking place in my thinking; but on looking back I realize that from the moment I started to read this book I never again doubted the existence of God. In the years which have followed I have not ceased to be grateful for having been led to this wonderful religion.
Soon after starting to read Science and Health I was fortunate in being introduced to a practitioner, who spent hours of her valuable time in answering my many questions and who has been an unfailing source of spiritual support in time of need. She helped me to begin to understand in some measure this new tongue, which at first seemed like a foreign language to me, and to gain a knowledge of my true existence as a child of God. It wasn't easy to discard many of the old beliefs and to announce to my family and friends the complete reversal of my former views, but in a very short while I knew that Christian Science had to be my way of life for the future.
Then came the time when I had to prove the healing power of my newfound religion. I was taken very ill one day with a high fever, accompanied by pain and swelling in the joints. A sister, with whom I was living at the time, asked the practitioner if she would give me treatment.
