As a child I was not considered to be very strong or healthy. I was ill quite often, having all the so-called children's diseases plus frequent colds and other indispositions.
While I was away at school my mother was stricken with tuberculosis, and a year later my elder sister was also believed to be ill with this disease. My own health was watched closely as X rays showed that I too had some evidence of this condition.
