Fear Has No Power
We usually think of fear as a reaction to circumstances. We believe we are afraid because some evil event seems about to take place. We are afraid because we are uncertain of our ability to defend ourselves. But when the danger is gone, we say we are no longer afraid.
Through the study and practice of Christian Science we learn that fear is not a reaction; it is itself false mental action. It is a basic element of mortal mind, the source of all evil, the supposed opposite of divine Mind, God, good. Mortal mind's false creation is matter, supposedly evolving itself, and its seeming force is animal magnetism.
The real Mind is Spirit, and its creation, man, is spiritual. In Truth, then, we are spiritual ideas, the perfect children of God. The generic term for these ideas is man. Mortal mind's supposed opposition to Spirit creates the illusion of matter, and animal magnetism seems capable of convincing us that matter is the real and that we are mortals.
