"Behold, for peace I had great...

"Behold , for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption" (Isa. 38:17). A proof of God's love was given to me in the following experience. I was stricken one day with an attack of severe pain. Regardless of all the scientific truths I declared and my denunciation of everything unlike God in my thought, the pain grew worse and was accompanied by chills and fever.

I had attended a Christian Science lecture two days previously, so my thought naturally went to the wonderful truths delivered by the lecturer relative to the Ten Commandments. The lecture rested upon the first and second commandments, which are in part (Ex. 20:3-5): "Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them."

When the chills came upon me, I replied to the thought that I should be down and cover up: "I shall not. No! I shall not bow down to this silly sense or serve it." Then the physical condition changed to that of a fever. To the thought that I should bathe my face in ice water, I said: "No! I shall not bow down to you either or serve you."
