The Singing Hills and Mountains
[Of Special Interest to Children]
Singing was one of the things Wendy enjoyed doing. And she liked to go to concerts with her class at school, to listen to the gay music on the radio, and to sing with her camp fire friends when they went hiking in the mountains.
It was a very happy day for Wendy when the big truck pulled up in front of her house and the men lifted out a huge crate. This was the day the beautiful new organ was to arrive, and Wendy couldn't wait for it to be moved in so that she could make music herself. For an organ was something she had thought of for several years!
The first weeks with the organ were exciting: there was getting acquainted with the new teacher, playing little tunes for friends who stopped in to see it, listening to the music that Mother and Father made. But after a few months, Wendy practiced less and less; in fact, some days she forgot about the beautiful organ entirely! She didn't look forward to playing, and even Mother noticed the unhappy face she made when she was reminded to practice. One week she said three times, "I'm sorry; I didn't practice!"
