Exercising One's Spiritual Sense
Many people have not outgrown their spiritually immature concepts of the nature of Deity. As a result they lack a definite spiritual sense of God that makes Him a "refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1). This is one of the tragedies of this enlightened age.
It will be remembered that when the disciples failed to heal the epileptic boy, Jesus said that their failure was due to their unbelief (see Matt. 17:20). They did not disbelieve in God. That is, they were not disavowing the reality of God. They were merely entertaining a limited sense of God's ability to control the experiences of men. How often this limited sense deprives us of demonstrations of Truth that otherwise would be possible!
Christian Science awakens an individual to the fact that God has endowed him with spiritual sense and the ability to exercise this sense, thereby enabling him to understand the nature of God and bring his entire experience under divine control.
