Talking with God
[Of Special Interest to Young Men and Women]
Have you spoken with God lately? The Bible contains accounts of men who found it quite natural to talk with God. Should we suppose that God, infinite Mind, is today further away or has any less ability now than He had in Bible times to speak directly to each one of us?
Perhaps the possibility of sitting down and having a talk with God seems a little remote, but it's possible for each of us to do it right now. It is truly a refreshing change from listening to worldly thoughts, because God, good, tells us only of His joyous, perfect idea, man. He tells us the truth of our existence. Moses caught a clear glimpse of man's communion with God, and he recorded (Deut. 5:24), "We have seen this day that God doth talk with man, and he liveth."
What is the natural effect of a receptive heart's listening to God? Why, nothing less than healing. When one hears and understands the truth of a situation, any mistaken error is dispelled. But how, one may ask, can I actually talk with God? An important condition is a deep desire to gain a better concept of what God is. Mrs. Eddy makes God more understandable to human consciousness through seven synonymous terms: Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; and Love. Let us see how an understanding of these terms can help in our communion with God.
