I grew up a frail, nervous person,...
I grew up a frail, nervous person, fearful of tuberculosis, from which my father and other members of his family had passed on. My concept of God was vague. He was some great power, for good and evil, in heaven. Where heaven was, I had no idea.
One day when I was grown, I read a Christian Science lecture, printed in a local newspaper. I knew at once that Science was what I wanted and needed. However, I did not turn to it completely until sometime later when our baby was old enough to start taking the injections advised for all children by the medical profession. When she was given her first injection, I decided then and there that she would never have another, and she never did.
There have been many healings. When the child was four years old, she became very ill. She was having Christian Science treatment, which is help through prayer, from a devoted practitioner. One evening the child grew stiff, and I was terrified. I lifted her in my arms and called to my husband to telephone the practitioner. My husband was not a Scientist, but he was willing for us to depend on Science. He telephoned, and within a few minutes I could feel the child relaxing. The healing came quickly after that.
