Some years ago my stepfather...
Some years ago my stepfather suddenly began to have severe headaches. Two doctors treated him; but, as the days went by the condition grew worse until one Saturday noon when I arrived home from work my mother met me at the door, in tears, saying she felt that Dad was passing on. A relative who had dropped in unexpectedly insisted on calling his doctor, who, on his arrival, diagnosed the condition as a brain tumor and said he doubted that Dad could live more than forty-eight hours.
My father was admitted to a hospital immediately, but there seemed to be nothing that could be done for him. When he was still alive at the end of the forty-eight hours, a specialist was brought in who recommended surgery but admitted that the patient's chances of living through the operation were very slim.
My family were not Christian Scientists, but my mother often attended the branch church of which I was a member, and at this time she decided to take her stand for Christian Science, and she had my stepfather brought home. A practitioner began prayerful work, and a Christian Science nurse was called in.
