Emanation, Not Organism
If man were evolved, through material forces, from some primitive form of lifeless substance, it would be useless for one to try to heal a physical condition of the body by declaring that man is spiritual. But such a declaration is not useless. It heals. From this we can only conclude that man is actually not an organism evolved from matter, but an idea emanating from Mind.
Christian Science heals on the basis of this truth. It is the truth of Mind as God and of man as God's perfect creation. It overcomes discords in the material body and in all of human experience. Discords vanish when man is understood to be the emanation of Mind. They vanish because the material sense of manhood in which discords appear is untrue. It is an illusion.
Christian Science teaches that God is Spirit, and the Word of God is Truth. The Bible tells us (John 1:1,3): "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.... All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made." Truth is a synonym for God, and Truth is also the term used when referring to Christ, the true idea of God. Nothing was made —nothing exists—that does not proceed from Mind as its emanation or idea. Nothing exists without Truth.
