Knowing the Michael and Gabriel Angels

[Of Special Interest to Children]

On Valentine's Day, Judy received many pretty cards from her friends. On one of them was a picture of little children with wings. Judy showed the valentines to her mother and her little friend Timmy. Timmy asked about the picture of the children with wings. Mother explained that they were mythical characters called cupids. Judy said that some of the children at school thought that the pictures were supposed to represent angels but that she understood what angels really are.

Now Judy and Timmy were pupils in a Christian Science Sunday School. So when Timmy asked about the picture, Judy got her Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and read to him the definition of "angels" (p. 581), "God's thoughts passing to man; spiritual intuitions, pure and perfect: the inspiration of goodness, purity, and immortality, counteracting all evil, sensuality, and mortality."

Judy explained that angels aren't people with wings but are God's thoughts. She continued, "When mortal mind tries to tell us to be disobedient or unhappy, angels are always present to tell us the truth." She asked her mother if she would find a place in the Bible where Jesus spoke of angels.
