It is now about three and a half years since I came upon a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Although it was very difficult to understand at first, I knew from the beginning that this was the truth I always had been looking for. It was a difficult way. There was so much wrong thinking to be thrown to the winds that understanding came very slowly. But what I soon understood was that it is necessary that we demonstrate in our daily life all we understand and that we must overcome our fear of sickness, sin, and death through our experiences.

As a result of the application of Christian Science I have had many healings in my family, and therefore I am deeply grateful. One of the first healings my elder daughter had took place two years or so ago. One day she had a sore throat and was rather feverish. All the day I held to the truth that as a child of God, as God's reflection, man cannot have anything that is not Godlike, and I told her so.

By the evening, however, she still had the fever, and that made me a little fearful. So I rang up a practitioner. She said she would give the child treatment, and she also advised me to read my daughter passages from our textbook, Science and Health. Well, I was willing to do so, but I did not believe the child would understand anything of the reading. To my astonishment she asked me, when I had read her some passages, to repeat one of these twice because, she said, she liked it so much. After this she soon fell quietly asleep, and the next morning she was completely healed.

A short time later I myself fell ill with angina. It was very difficult for me to swallow, and I also had a fever; but after a practitioner had visited me the healing came instantaneously.

The next healing resulted from my own application of Christian Science. One day my younger daughter was very feverish, and my first thought was that she had a certain so-called children's disease which many children in the neighborhood had. Almost at the same moment, however, I corrected this thought, knowing that she, actually God's child, God's reflection, was as perfect as her perfect Father-Mother.

My daughter quieted down and asked me to sing a hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal. During my singing she fell asleep. In the evening, however, she was worse, and the fever came back. That frightened me, and I asked myself what I should do.

I took the textbook and opened it at page 589 where I read: "Japhet (Noah's son). A type of spiritual peace, flowing from the understanding that God is the divine Principle of all existence, and that man is His idea, the child of His care."

I understood that the only thing I had to do was to know that my daughter was a child of God and in His care, and what care could be greater than His perfect care? How good to know this! A great peace came over me, and the next morning my daughter was completely healed.

Because of these and other experiences I can say with all my heart (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free"—free front sickness and death.
