I wish to express my gratitude...
I wish to express my gratitude for many years of blessings, protection, healings, and supply received through Christian Science. I have never acknowledged any of these in print before, and I remember how much comfort I received from the testimonies in our periodicals when I first began to read them, so I should like to add my voice to the crescendo of praise to God for Christ Jesus and for Mrs. Eddy.
During my early experience my husband and I went for an outing with another couple one Sunday afternoon. We had to go through quite thick underbrush to our desired spot. In the course of reaching a place on a fallen tree where I could sit, I injured my foot. I heard two distinct snaps in it,
I immediately repeated "the scientific statement of being" to myself and did not mention hearing any snaps to anyone or that I was in pain. The statement is found on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and includes these words: "Spirit is the real and eternal; matter is the unreal and temporal."
I asked my husband to carry me to the car since I could not walk. Then I asked him to go back and tell the others I was fine and not to spoil their afternoon. I sat there alone going prayerfully through "the scientific statement of being" and, having been to church that morning, I remembered a passage from the readings which I thought about. At that time I did not know too many truths to say or how to work.
All at once I looked up, and it seemed to me that I had never seen such a beautiful day. It was indescribable. It was then that the pain ceased, and I had no pain from then on, although it was about three weeks before I could walk freely again on both feet.
Because my husband had taken a premedical course in order to obtain his degree, his thought was very fearful; so I had to call a practitioner for treatment. With the help of the practitioner all evidence of the injury and of the belief that there had been an accident was removed, and in three weeks I was walking.
I am so very grateful for this beautiful healing in my early study of Christian Science. Remembering that beautiful day has helped me many times since in working out other problems. I am grateful also for membership in The Mother Church, for service in a branch church, and for class instruction, which grows dearer to me every year.—(Mrs.) Jeannette Ewing Owens, Dixon, Illinois.
