WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST
[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on October 31, 1965.]
My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord (Hebr. 12:5)
The writer of the Epistle to the Hebrews quotes exactly, Greek for Greek, from the Septuagint Version of Proverbs 3:11; and the King James Version gives an English equivalent, which reads alike in both Hebrews and Proverbs. The Greek noun translated "chastening" means simply "education," but in the Bible "chastening" implies disciplinary correction as well.
Scourgeth (Hebr. 12:6)
