Thirty-nine years ago I was, indeed, a very sick man. So ill had I become that I was compelled to resign from a large concern for which I worked and in which I was making headway. The secretary to the board wrote me a letter assuring me that when I had fully recovered my health, my old post would still be open to me. Not one man who knew me ever thought it possible that I would recover.

My local doctor, who was considered expert at diagnosis, could not in my case find the cause of the trouble and, therefore, could not prescribe a healing remedy. One day he asked me to call and see him; and during our talk, he told me that unless the trouble could be found and dealt with immediately, I must certainly pass on. This did seem inevitable.

He arranged for me to see five specialists, each in a different field of knowledge, in the hope that the cause of it all might be discovered and a material remedy applied. In due course he received reports from each of the specialists indicating they could not find anything wrong in their fields, yet I was still seriously ill.
