Sanctuaries of Healing
A Christian Science Reading Room is a place of refuge, a sanctuary where the qualities of Spirit, entertained in thought, heal and bless. Many individuals, studying there with sincerity and meekness, are gaining a spiritual understanding of their selfhood as children of God. They are thereby being freed from conditions that result from a false sense of identity.
Mrs. Eddy describes the leavening influence of Truth in this way: "The three measures of meal may well be likened to the false sense of life, substance, and intelligence, which says, I am sustained by bread, matter, instead of Mind. The spiritual leaven of divine Science changes this false sense, giving better views of Life; saying, Man's Life is God; and when this shall appear, it shall be 'the substance of things hoped for' " (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 175). And she continues, "The measure of Life shall increase by every spiritual touch, even as the leaven expands the loaf."
