A Gift of Love
[Of Special Interest to Children]
One cold winter morning Emily and her mother and father were riding along the highway in the family car. Emily had invited two of her friends to visit the Christian Science Sunday School, which she attended and where she learned of Christ Jesus and of Mrs. Eddy, his faithful follower, who taught that God, divine Love, is present everywhere. Now Emily and her parents were on their way into town to get her friends.
Suddenly Emily saw a little dog lying in the middle of the road; apparently it had been hit by an automobile. Immediately she knew that, as Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 424), "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection." Her mother had told her this many times.
"Daddy, stop quickly, please!" Emily called. "His leg is moving; he needs us."
