When the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, appeared in its original form in 1875, it brought to mankind a spiritually scientific concept of God, man, and the universe. It presented an explanation of many hidden spiritual truths in the Bible, and it taught its students how to heal themselves and others through scientific prayer. It brought a conviction and assurance that the healing works performed by Christ Jesus could again be accomplished through a correct understanding of the Word of God.
