From the time I was a young child, I had attended Sunday School and read the Bible. However, as I began my teen-age years, I found that I was not satisfied with my religion and that I was seeking something more when Christian Science came into my life. I knew that I had found the answers to my questions concerning God! The small understanding that I was able to gain through the following years sustained me greatly during a tragic experience some years later.

I was left alone to rear my very young daughter and felt that my world had collapsed and that I could never be happy again. Through the kind and patient help of a dear friend and practitioner, as well as through the love and understanding of my family and friends, and finally, through looking away from the material situation to God for my answer, I was able to find my way.

Two passages by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health were a neverending source of strength. One reads (p. 304), "This is the doctrine of Christian Science: that divine Love cannot be deprived of its manifestation, or object; that joy cannot be turned into sorrow, for sorrow is not the master of joy." The other is on page 66 and reads: "Sorrow has its reward. It never leaves us where it found us." A hymn that sustained me greatly during this time is No. 148 in the Christian Science Hymnal. The last stanza reads:
