At one time our daughter, who...

At one time our daughter, who was then ten, got a sliver in the back of her leg during a lesson in school. She thought, "God is all around me, so nothing can hurt me." There was never any pain after the sliver first went in. She finished the lesson and then played games on the playground before going to the school secretary, who got in touch with me. She told me she could not try to get the sliver out as it was in too deep. The child was limping; so the school nurse said she should go to a hospital.

I called a Christian Science practitioner to help us know the truth. We knew that "the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword" (Hebr. 4:12). And we remembered that Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive."

Soon the child no longer limped but ran and played and rode her bicycle as though nothing were there. The practitioner left the city for a while, and we were on our own. Our daughter and I realized that, as Mrs. Eddy says (ibid., p. 353): "Perfection underlies reality. Without perfection, nothing is wholly real. All things will continue to disappear, until perfection appears and reality is reached."
