When a dear friend presented...
When a dear friend presented Christian Science to me, I knew that it was what I had been searching for. I was a member of an orthodox church for many years, but did not gain that peace and understanding of God which I had always wanted. I had suffered from a chronic throat complaint and was in and out of hospital much of the time. My friend saw my distress and asked me if I would have Christian Science treatment. I had not previously heard of Science.
My friend loaned me a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. When I read the first sentence in the Preface (p vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings," I pondered it and thought how wonderful those words were. I felt immediate relief, and a complete healing followed very quickly. I have never been troubled since by that complaint.
I resolved at once that I would rely exclusively on God for healing. I threw out all the medicines which I had been taking. Since then I have had healings of heart trouble and nervous disorders. These healings have been proof to me of the truth of the words (ibid., p. 167), "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized."
I am also deeply grateful that confusion, doubt, and fear in my thought have given place to confidence, joy, trust in God, and a sense of peace and contentment which comes from a better spiritual understanding.
I am grateful for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the priceless treasure she has given us, and for membership in The Mother Church and a Christian Science Society. I am grateful too for the Lesson-Sermons, outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, for the help of practitioners, who stand by us when we are in need of help, and for the privilege of holding informal services in our home, which is forty miles from a Christian Science church.
I am immeasurably grateful to God for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower.—(Mrs.) Emily Naiff, Yeppoon, Queensland, Australia.
