Teaching a Group of Teen-age Pupils
[From a teacher in a branch church Sunday School]
In the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy (Art. XX, Sect. 2) we are given the directions for Sunday School teaching, which read, "The Sabbath School children shall be taught the Scriptures, and they shall be instructed according to their understanding or ability to grasp the simpler meanings of the divine Principle that they are taught."
Teaching the Scriptures requires of the teacher a spiritual understanding and appreciation of them in order to awaken this appreciation in the pupils. The teachers endeavor by instruction and inspiration to cause the words of the Bible to become alive to the pupils, not only as something that happened centuries ago, but as a present and powerful living truth that exists now as law to guide the receptive thought.
