A quick healing has often inspired people to begin the study of Christian Science. I had such a healing, and it became the motivation for me to begin earnestly to study to learn more of the great spiritual truths taught by Christ Jesus and revealed to us in this age by Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and founder of Christian Science.

One day I injured my ankle. I heard something pop, and it became quite painful to put any weight on my foot at all. After returning home, I began reading the textbook by Mrs. Eddy. On page 475 I found this statement: "Man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements." And in the same paragraph we read, "Man is spiritual and perfect."

At this time, I did receive a sense of peace and calm; so I decided to watch a baseball game on television. When the game was over, I found that I could not stand at all on that foot, and I decided to call a Christian Science practitioner. So quickly did she rebuke the error and so effectively did she help me that I suddenly felt completely detached in thought from my material body. I went back to the passages quoted above and studied them this time with a much better sense of understanding.
