Christian Science has been a vital part of my experience for many years. Although reared in a Christian Science Sunday School, a member of my family having been a devoted practitioner of the religion, I turned from it in my early teens. Occasionally I read the textbook by Mrs. Eddy, called on a Christian Science practitioner for help, and attended church services. I also attended the services of other denominations, but finally concluded that I was just not religious.

The last year of my professional education was quite strenuous owing to pressure of work. That, along with other factors, resulted in a breakdown in health, evidenced in extreme weakness and internal pain. It also appeared that my faculties, particularly my hearing, were not functioning normally.

My family said I would have to do something. It was to be my choice whether I had medical aid or Christian Science. I chose the latter, and shortly thereafter a Christian Science practitioner was asked to give me treatment. She requested that all other reading be put aside for the time and that only the Bible, the textbook, and other Christian Science literature be studied.
