THE OPEN HAND
Budgeting
of worldly-wise
to save oneself, not freely give;
stretch a pennyworth of life,
strain it through dogmatic sieve,
self-protect, economize—
bankrupt soul!
Rather look with open eyes
fearlessly on cost, and still
dare to love and dare to live.
Thus will Christian achieve
stature above pygmy size,
more than microscopic prize.
